Vocal Registers

Vocal

Different modes of vocal cord function: modal (normal voice), falsetto (light, airy), whistle (extremely high).

Modal: speak normally. Falsetto: 'hooo' like an owl. Whistle: very high 'squeaky' tone (like Mariah Carey).

Mastering registers lets the singer use their full range. The 'break' between registers is where most singers struggle.
